So what do we do with the house for six months?

A big decision we have had to make was what to do with the house while we are traveling. Do we leave it to gather dust, rent it out or sell it? Seeing we're travelling in a camper trailer we don't need to go to the extreme of selling our home.... so we decided to rent it.

So the equation was rental return versus the cost of storage, removalist costs, insurances, carpet cleans, window cleans... That doesn't sound too bad. What we didn't take into account was the human misery, sweat, stress, back pain, sleepless nights caused by adding a huge amount of additional effort cleaning, cutting, pruning, painting, cleaning, cleaning and did I say cleaning before the house was worthy of rent.

Going to the tip was an interesting experience for the family and it was great fun throwing away old tellies with a loud, satisfying crash. We also called on many favours from friends when we found our first and second storage units were not large enough to accomodate the accumulated debris of our family.

To make the house more rentee friendly, I did pull out some favourite heritage roses, which did bring a tear to my eye. Robyn did an amzing job organising insurances, disconnections, redirections.
