Day 127-129 Limestone Creek Rest Area – Katherine Gorge - Edith Falls 5th - 8th August

A quick trip into Katherine early in the morning ensued. The tourist info at Katherine was very insightful and we ended up booking a four hour boat-trip up Katherine Gorge as Vic had also recommended. This turned out to be a terrific highlight with multiple boat rides through spectacular gorges which finished with a nice swim in a water-hole with a great view.

Time for a swim

We decided to stay at Edith Falls instead of the main and very expensive campsite at Katherine Gorge. We reserved a spot through tourist info. Unfortunately, by the time we got there – late after the gorge boat cruise, someone had parked there... but after a bit of stress and running around it all got sorted and we got our spot. Edith Falls had great facilities, flushing toilets, great showers – we were very spoilt.

We spent the next couple of days visiting Katherine and doing some of the walks and swimming in the amazing waterholes that make up Edith Falls. The lower falls and upper falls were open to swimming with no crocs in sight!

In Katherine we took some time to visit Didj Top End Art Gallery. We had a fabulous time there, spending time painting with one of their resident artists, Manuel. As part of it we also threw a spear at a fake kangaroo, threw boomerangs and watched a fire started with fire-sticks. It was a lot of fun for all – and the art work produced by all was great.

Having set up our table on the green grass, Jordan continued strumming Blowing in the Wind and started on Streets of London to increase his repertoire. Adam, was happy to sing loudly and out of tune to American Pie and songs he made up. It was pretty funny - even though painful!

Jasmine and Ben made a camp of their own which looked like a giant teepee in which they played for hours with their toys.
