Day 157-158 Winton – Longreach - Ilfracombe September 2nd – September 4th

Today was the return to the Age of Dinosaurs for the Ralh family. We drove a short 100km to Lake Quarry to visit the fascinating fossilised remains of the world's only recorded dinosaur stampede – which was also used for inspiration in the Jurassic Park movie. Over 100 dinosaur prints probably caused by a single event.

We finished the day visiting the excellent Age of Dinosaur Museum, 20km outside Winton. George, the enthusiastic Steve Irwin of palaeontology introduced us to Banjo and Matilda – the remains of two world first Australian Dinosaur discoveries. It was an excellent and thoroughly entertaining museum and certainly recommended.

We drove on and stayed at a small caravan site in Ilfracombe, which in itself was nothing to write home about but which put on a bush-poet show at happy hour. Robyn caught up with laundry and we all made ample use of the showers after a week on the road. Our feral family was almost human again.

From Ilfracombe, we visited nearby Longreach and the Stockman's Hall of Fame – my highlight was the interactive map of explorers as well as stories of local bushmen which dotted the walls.
